 - Once in a Lifetime! -

A routine visit from Age Scotland Development Officer, Linda Anderson has led to an exciting night out for the ladies of St Patrick’s Women’s Guild.

Marie McLaren, President of the Guild which meets every Tuesday in St Patricks Church Hall happened to mention to Linda that the ladies were in the process of planning there next theatre visit. Ideally the ladies would have liked to see The Lion King, but Marie felt this was just too expensive to organise and was ready to book a more local inexpensive option. However, Age Scotland were able to step in and support the group to access a grant which allowed Marie and the group to organise that once in a lifetime visit to the capital to see the award winning musical The Lion King.

It’s an opportunity that the group have grabbed with both hands, many of the group are older and a lengthy outing to London’s West End would not be an option either physically or financially!

As a membership organisation, Age Scotland works to help and support local older peoples groups to organise events, source funding, increase membership and various other activities.Age Scotland Development Officer Linda Anderson said “ Many of our members access our grants in order to attend outings and events, often without our support many of these vital social outings would not take place”.Marie McLaren, President of the Guild said “Sometimes it pays just to ask, without Age Scotland’s contribution the outing would not have been possible. Now we are looking forward to dinner and the Lion King in Edinburgh later this month!”
